Akaka Falls Travel Poster
What I Used
Illustrator
Used to create the stylized vector illustration of the landscape, character, and waterfall, inspired by 1920s national park poster design.
Color Theory
Used a muted and earthy palette with contrast to evoke vintage travel posters and guide visual hierarchy through depth and light.
About the Poster
This piece is a 1920s-inspired travel poster created for a class project focused on visual storytelling and branding. We were asked to design a promotional poster for a U.S. state park, complete with a custom logo and historically inspired aesthetic.
I chose Akaka Falls in Hawaiʻi and drew inspiration from vintage national park posters and its layouts. The style evokes the golden age of travel—when posters were bold, romanticized, and meant to inspire wanderlust. The scene is built with simplified shapes and a warm, inviting palette to reflect the serenity and natural beauty of the park.
The logo for Akaka Falls was designed to be versatile and timeless, grounding the piece with a sense of place and identity. This project was a chance to combine nostalgia, branding, and design history into a single expressive piece.
